Klimt Villa, in Vienna’s leafy Hietzing district, preserves the setting of Gustav Klimt’s last studio. The artist worked here from 1911 until his death in 1918, creating late paintings including Lady with a Fan. Unlike the grand galleries that hold his most famous canvases, this small museum focuses on the space in which he worked.
The studio rooms have been reconstructed using historical photographs and accounts, offering a glimpse of Klimt’s working environment and the people who visited him. A villa was built around the original studio after his death; the restored site opened to the public in 2012. The garden adds to the sense of retreat from the city.
