Via Mazzini

Via Mazzini is Verona’s pedestrian shopping street, running through the historic centre between Piazza Bra and the area around Piazza delle Erbe. Its pale stone paving, elegant façades and polished shop windows make it a natural route between the Arena and the old city’s market square. Though often treated as a neighbourhood, it is a street at the heart of Verona’s commercial centre.

Named after the Italian unification figure Giuseppe Mazzini, the street connects districts shaped by Verona’s Roman, medieval and Renaissance history. Look above the fashion boutiques and jewellers for balconies, carved doorways and the upper storeys of historic palazzi. Juliet’s House is a short detour away on Via Cappello.

Via Mazzini is worth visiting as much for its atmosphere as for its shops. Join the evening passeggiata, browse Italian and international brands, or turn into a side street for a quieter café or wine bar. Continue towards Piazza delle Erbe for market stalls and frescoed buildings, with time for a glass of local Valpolicella along the way.

Late afternoon brings warm light and plenty of people-watching; come early in the morning for a calmer walk and clearer photographs. The street gets particularly busy on weekends and during the summer opera season, so keep valuables secure. From Verona Porta Nuova station, allow roughly 20–25 minutes on foot via Corso Porta Nuova and Piazza Bra; driving in the historic centre is restricted.
