The Bridge of Peace is a glass-and-steel pedestrian bridge spanning the Mtkvari River in central Tbilisi. Designed by Italian architect Michele De Lucchi and opened in 2010, its curved, latticed canopy connects the Old Town with Rike Park on the opposite bank.
The bridge is a striking example of the contemporary architecture that reshaped parts of Tbilisi in the early 21st century. Its futuristic silhouette has divided opinion, but it offers an unmistakable contrast to the older buildings and hills around it. After dark, thousands of LEDs illuminate the canopy, turning a practical crossing into one of the city’s most recognisable sights.
Walk across around sunset to see the bridge in daylight and return after dark for the lights. The crossing is free, and it pairs easily with a stroll through the Old Town or Rike Park.
