Kohtuotsa Viewing Platform sits on the northern edge of Toompea Hill, offering one of the most recognisable views over Tallinn. From the open terrace, the red-tiled roofs of the Old Town lead the eye towards St. Olaf’s Church, the modern city skyline and the Gulf of Finland.
The panorama puts Tallinn’s layers of history in perspective. Toompea was historically the seat of Estonia’s rulers, while the merchant town below grew wealthy through Hanseatic trade. Today, the medieval streets and church spires form part of Tallinn’s UNESCO-listed Old Town, with newer neighbourhoods rising beyond them.
Visit early in the morning for a quieter look, or come towards sunset when the rooftops catch the warm light. The platform is free to visit, but the walk up Toompea involves slopes and cobbled streets, so comfortable shoes help. It can also be breezy on the exposed terrace, even when the streets below feel sheltered.
