Natural History Museum

Stuttgart’s State Museum of Natural History tells the story of life on Earth across two sites in and around Rosenstein Park. Museum am Löwentor focuses on fossils and prehistoric environments, while Schloss Rosenstein, a nineteenth-century palace, houses exhibitions on animals, habitats and biodiversity. Together, they offer a different perspective on a city often associated with cars and industry.

The museum grew from Württemberg’s historic natural history collections into a research institution with millions of specimens. At Museum am Löwentor, fossils from southwestern Germany give the displays a distinctly local dimension: marine reptiles evoke the Jurassic seas that once covered the region, alongside dinosaurs and other remains from the deep past.

The two sites reward different interests, so allow time to visit both if you can. Rosenstein Park makes a pleasant walk between them, and public transport is a convenient way to reach the area. Check the museum’s official website before setting out for current opening hours, admission and any closures, as arrangements can differ between the two locations.
