Killesberg Park & Observation Tower

Killesberg Park is a hilltop green space in northern Stuttgart, with landscaped gardens, wooded paths and open lawns spread across roughly 50 hectares. Created for the 1939 Reich Garden Show and reshaped for later garden exhibitions, it remains part of the city’s horticultural legacy as well as a favourite place for a walk or picnic.

The park’s most distinctive landmark is the Killesberg Observation Tower, a slender steel structure rising 40 metres above the gardens. Its open staircase leads to views across Stuttgart and the surrounding wooded hills. Back on the ground, visitors can wander past rose gardens and ponds, while a miniature railway offers a slower circuit of the grounds and is popular with families.

Late spring and summer bring the gardens into bloom, though the park is pleasant for a quieter walk outside the warmer months. Come early on sunny weekends if you prefer more space, and bring a picnic if you plan to linger. The park is free to enter; the miniature railway runs seasonally and charges a fare. From central Stuttgart, take the U-Bahn to Killesberg and walk to the park.
