Karlshöhe

Karlshöhe is a hilltop park and viewpoint overlooking Stuttgart’s valley basin. From its elevated terrace, rooftops spread across the slopes below, with wooded ridges and vineyards framing the city. It’s one of the most rewarding places to see how Stuttgart fits into its famously hilly landscape.

Long used as a local retreat, the park has a more relaxed feel than Stuttgart’s grander formal gardens. Residents come to walk, meet friends and watch the city change colour towards evening. A beer garden near the viewpoint adds to the appeal in warmer months, when the terrace becomes a sociable spot to linger.

Visit in the late afternoon for softer light over the rooftops, or arrive before sunset to find a place with a clear view. The park is free to enter and open year-round; paths from the surrounding streets climb uphill and may include steps, so comfortable shoes are useful. If you’re planning to stop at the beer garden, check its seasonal opening times before setting out.
