Tucked into the heart of Skopje's Old Bazaar, the Mustafa Pasha Mosque is one of the finest and best-preserved examples of Ottoman architecture in the entire western Balkans. Built in 1492 on the orders of Grand Vizier Mustafa Pasha — a Macedonian-born statesman who rose to one of the most powerful positions in the Ottoman Empire — the mosque was constructed just as the Ottomans were consolidating their hold over the region.
