Built on the site where Anjezë Gonxhe Bojaxhiu — the woman the world would come to know as Mother Teresa — was baptised in 1910, this small but genuinely moving memorial house sits in the pedestrian heart of Skopje, just off Macedonia Square. The original church was destroyed in the catastrophic 1963 earthquake that levelled much of the city, but the memorial opened in 2009 to reclaim her connection to this place, and to North Macedonia's often-overlooked role in one of the 20th century's most extraordinary lives. It is modest in scale, which somehow makes it more affecting rather than less.
