Tucked into a narrow street just steps from the Piazza Navona, the Church of Saint Louis of the French has been the spiritual home of the French community in Rome since it was consecrated in 1589. It's a Renaissance building with a restrained facade that gives almost nothing away about what's waiting inside — which is precisely the point. You walk through the door expecting a competent ecclesiastical interior and instead find yourself standing in front of three of the most important paintings Caravaggio ever made.
