Petřín Tower is Prague’s own Eiffel-inspired lookout, a slender iron lattice rising above the gardens of Petřín Hill. Built for the 1891 Jubilee Exhibition, the 63.5-metre tower was inspired by the Paris landmark, but its hilltop setting gives it a commanding presence over the Czech capital.
Climb to the viewing platforms for a panorama of Prague Castle, the Vltava and the red roofs of Malá Strana and the Old Town. The tower is a piece of local history as well as a viewpoint: its creation reflected the confidence of late 19th-century Prague, and its resemblance to the Eiffel Tower has become part of its charm.
There are 299 steps to the top, so allow time for the climb as well as the walk up Petřín Hill. Go early for a quieter visit or near sunset for softer light over the city. Check the official website before visiting for current opening hours, ticket details and lift availability.
