Albrecht Dürer’s House

Albrecht Dürer’s House is a rare surviving artist’s home in Nürnberg’s Old Town, just below the Imperial Castle. The Renaissance painter and printmaker lived and worked in this half-timbered building from 1509 until his death in 1528. Today, the museum offers a more intimate introduction to his life than a conventional gallery can provide.

Inside, reconstructed domestic rooms and a workshop suggest how Dürer and his household lived and worked. Displays explore his artistic techniques, while reproductions of major works help put his achievements in context. On selected tours, a guide portraying his wife Agnes brings another perspective to the household; check the museum’s schedule if you’re interested.

Allow around an hour or more to explore the house, and check opening times before visiting. It’s an uphill walk of roughly ten minutes from Hauptmarkt to the Tiergärtnertor area. The historic building has stairs and uneven surfaces, so wear comfortable shoes and check accessibility information in advance if needed.
