The English Garden in Munich is one of the largest urban parks in the world, stretching over 900 acres through the heart of the city and outpacing even Central Park and Hyde Park in size. Conceived in the late 18th century by American-born Benjamin Thompson and landscape architect Friedrich Ludwig von Sckell, it was a radical idea at the time — a public green space open to all citizens, regardless of class, modelled loosely on the informal English landscaping style that gave it its name.
