Prada Foundation

Fondazione Prada is a contemporary art institution in southern Milan, housed in a former gin distillery transformed by architect Rem Koolhaas and his firm OMA. Opened in 2015, the campus combines early 20th-century industrial buildings with new galleries, courtyards and a tower, creating something closer to a small neighbourhood than a conventional museum.

Founded in 1993 by Miuccia Prada and Patrizio Bertelli, the foundation has helped make Milan a destination for experimental art as well as fashion and design. Its changing exhibitions share the site with long-term installations, while the architecture is compelling in its own right: the gold-leaf-clad Haunted House contrasts with the concrete, glass and industrial surfaces around it. Bar Luce, designed by filmmaker Wes Anderson, offers a playful take on a mid-century Milanese café.

Allow at least two or three hours to explore the galleries and buildings, and check the exhibition programme and opening days before you go. Book tickets online for popular shows, and wear comfortable shoes for walking between spaces. The campus is reachable by public transport; Lodi TIBB on the M3 metro line is within walking distance.
