Biblioteca degli Alberi Park

Biblioteca degli Alberi, often called BAM, is a contemporary public park in Milan’s Porta Nuova district, a short walk from Piazza Gae Aulenti. Its name means “Library of Trees”: paths cross lawns and botanical planting beds, while trees are arranged in distinctive circular groves. Opened in 2018, the roughly ten-hectare park offers a green counterpoint to the surrounding glass towers.

Designed by the Dutch landscape architecture studio Inside Outside, the park occupies land transformed as part of the redevelopment of the former railway and industrial area around Porta Garibaldi. Today it is both a neighbourhood gathering place and a venue for cultural events, workshops and outdoor activities. Its geometric layout and varied planting make it an interesting stop for anyone curious about modern Milan beyond the historic centre.

Come to walk or cycle the paths, picnic on the lawns, or see the Bosco Verticale residential towers rising above the greenery. Spring flowers and autumn foliage bring colour, while the circular groves give the park structure throughout the year. Late afternoon is a good time for photographs; weekday mornings tend to be quieter. Entry is free, and Porta Garibaldi and Isola metro stations are both a short walk away. Bring water in warm weather and keep out of marked planting beds.
