Clara Zetkin Park

Clara Zetkin Park is one of Leipzig’s favourite places to slow down: a broad expanse of lawns, mature trees and waterways just southwest of the city centre. Part of the city’s larger riverside green belt, it draws picnickers, runners, cyclists and friends meeting for an afternoon outdoors.

The park brings together landscaped green spaces created in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It was named in 1955 after Clara Zetkin, the socialist politician and women’s rights campaigner. Today, its cultural life is as much a draw as its history, with concerts at the Parkbühne open-air stage and people gathering around the Sachsenbrücke, a popular meeting spot at the park’s western edge.

Visit in the warmer months to see the lawns and café terraces at their liveliest, or come on a weekday morning for a quieter walk. The park is easy to reach by bicycle or tram from central Leipzig, and entry is free, though individual events may charge admission. Cyclists use the main paths too, so keep an eye out when walking with children or dogs.
