Tower MMK brings contemporary art into Frankfurt’s banking district, occupying exhibition space in the TaunusTurm skyscraper. It is one of the venues of the Museum für Moderne Kunst, alongside the museum’s distinctive triangular main building on Domstraße. The contrast between experimental art and the corporate setting gives this Frankfurt museum an urban character of its own.
Opened in 2014, Tower MMK extends the museum’s programme beyond its Hans Hollein-designed home, which opened in 1991. Changing exhibitions draw on the MMK’s contemporary art collection and present works by international artists, with the tower’s spacious galleries providing a different setting from the main museum’s angular rooms.
Check the MMK website for the current exhibition, opening hours and ticket options before visiting, as the programme changes. Taunusanlage S-Bahn station is nearby, and the museum is also within walking distance of Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof. If time allows, pair your visit with the main MMK building for a look at contemporary art in two very different architectural settings.
