Aquazoo

Aquazoo Löbbecke Museum in Düsseldorf brings a natural history museum, aquarium and zoo together under one roof. Located in Nordpark since 1987, it traces the development of life through living animals, fossils and zoological specimens—a combination that sets it apart from a conventional aquarium.

The exhibits move between freshwater habitats, tropical reefs and life on land. Visitors can see jellyfish and reef fish alongside amphibians, reptiles and insects, with preserved specimens adding context to the living displays. It’s an absorbing stop for families, but the evolutionary story and variety of habitats give adults plenty to explore, too.

Allow a couple of hours for a visit, and consider a weekday afternoon outside school holidays for a quieter experience. The museum is indoors, making it a useful rainy-day option; in better weather, leave time for a walk through Nordpark. Take the U78 or U79 to Nordpark/Aquazoo, and check the museum’s website for current opening hours and ticket prices before setting out.
