Dubai’s Museum of the Future is less a conventional museum than an immersive exploration of what the coming decades might hold. Opened in 2022 beside Sheikh Zayed Road, its seven-storey stainless-steel building forms a gleaming ring around an empty centre, with Arabic calligraphy cut into its façade.
The museum was conceived as a space for imagining and testing ideas about the future, including life in 2071, the UAE’s centenary year. The calligraphy features quotations from Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, giving the striking contemporary design a distinctly local cultural reference.
Inside, exhibitions use storytelling and interactive installations to explore space travel, ecology, technology and wellbeing. Rather than a collection of historical objects, visitors encounter imagined environments and scenarios; it’s worth visiting as much for the architecture as for the thought-provoking journey through it.
Book tickets in advance, particularly for weekends and holidays, and allow around two hours for your visit. The museum is connected to Emirates Towers Metro Station by a pedestrian bridge, making the metro a convenient alternative to driving.
