The Burj Al Arab is one of Dubai’s most recognisable landmarks: a 321-metre sail-shaped hotel rising from an artificial island off Jumeirah Beach. Designed by British architect Tom Wright and opened in 1999, it became an early symbol of Dubai’s ambition to establish itself as a global luxury destination.
Its silhouette is impressive from the shoreline, but the interior is equally theatrical, with a soaring atrium, colourful finishes and generous use of gold. You don’t need to be a hotel guest to see it: the Inside Burj Al Arab guided tour offers a look at the building’s design and some of its most lavish spaces.
Book a tour or restaurant reservation in advance, as access to the island is restricted. Check the dress code for your chosen experience, particularly for dining. For a free view of the exterior, head to the Jumeirah coastline around sunset, when the tower stands out against the changing sky.
