KölnTriangle & the Deutz Riverfront

Across the Rhine from Cologne’s old town, KölnTriangle offers one of the city’s clearest skyline views. A lift takes visitors to the observation deck atop the glass tower, where Cologne Cathedral’s twin spires rise beyond the river and trains cross the Hohenzollern Bridge below. The panorama makes the relationship between the cathedral, the old town and the Rhine easy to appreciate in a single glance.

The surrounding Deutz riverfront adds another layer to the visit. Romans built a fort here in the fourth century, and Deutz remained a separate town until it became part of Cologne in 1888. Today, its promenade offers a quieter perspective on the city: instead of looking out from the historic centre, you can take in its skyline from across the water.

Come near sunset for warm light on the cathedral, or after dark to see the bridge and illuminated Dom reflected in the Rhine. The observation deck charges admission and opening hours can change, so check the current schedule before visiting. Köln Messe/Deutz station is a short walk away; alternatively, cross the Hohenzollern Bridge on foot from the old town and continue along the riverfront.
