The Historic Windmill, known locally as Mühle am Wall, rises above the flower beds and paths of Bremen’s Wallanlagen park. Its red-brick base, white sails and green cap make it a distinctive landmark on the walk between the main railway station and the old town.
The present windmill dates from 1898 and stands on a site with a longer milling history. It is a reminder of the grain mills that once served Bremen, offering a different perspective on a city better known for its Hanseatic merchants and maritime trade. The surrounding Wallanlagen occupy the former city fortifications, now a green belt curving around the historic centre.
Come for a stroll through the gardens and a view of the mill framed by seasonal flowers. It’s an easy stop on foot from either Bremen Hauptbahnhof or the old town; allow a little extra time to follow the park paths rather than heading straight for the centre. The grounds are enjoyable year-round, though flower displays are at their best in the warmer months. If you hope to go inside or eat at the mill, check current opening hours ahead of your visit.
