Bremen’s Roland Statue stands in the Marktplatz, facing the cathedral with a drawn sword and an imperial eagle on his shield. Erected in 1404, the limestone figure depicts Roland, a legendary knight associated with Charlemagne. The statue itself is around 5.5 metres tall; its decorated column and canopy bring the monument to just over 10 metres.
