Bremen’s Rhododendron Park is a 46-hectare green space with one of the world’s most significant collections of rhododendrons and azaleas. Established in 1935, it has grown into both a much-loved local park and a destination for plant enthusiasts, with winding paths through expansive beds of flowering shrubs.
The best time to visit is usually May, when the rhododendrons and azaleas fill the park with pink, purple, white and crimson blooms. Flowering generally runs from late April into June, though the timing varies with the weather. Beyond the outdoor gardens, botanika adds a different dimension: its glasshouse landscapes evoke the habitats of Asia, with exotic plants and exhibits to explore.
The park itself is free to enter; botanika has a separate admission charge. Tram line 4 connects central Bremen with the area, followed by a walk to the grounds. For a quieter visit during flowering season, come on a weekday morning, and wear comfortable shoes for exploring the park’s winding paths.
