The Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church stands on Breitscheidplatz at the eastern end of Berlin’s Kurfürstendamm, its broken tower a stark contrast to the bustle around it. Built in the 1890s in honour of Kaiser Wilhelm I, the neo-Romanesque church was badly damaged in a British air raid in 1943. Its ruined tower was preserved as a reminder of the destruction of war.
