The Bahrain World Trade Center is one of the most architecturally distinctive skyscrapers in the Middle East, and the first skyscraper in the world to integrate wind turbines directly into its design as a functional feature rather than a decorative flourish. Completed in 2008, the twin towers rise 240 metres above Manama's skyline, connected by three horizontal sky bridges, each holding a massive 225-kilowatt wind turbine. The sail-shaped towers are deliberately curved to funnel sea breezes off the Arabian Gulf through the turbines — a piece of engineering that was groundbreaking at the time and still turns heads among architects and engineers today. It stands as a marker of Bahrain's ambition to position itself as a forward-thinking Gulf state during its oil-fuelled modernisation era.
